SERGEANT NPC CONTACT

The Lodge is located on the hills near the town, large and strange. It contrasts a lot when compared to the rest of the town -- its gray and white walls are quite the change from the vibrant and colorful Cartesio, the plants and bushes that are planted on the lower levels of the Lodge only make the contrast more obvious. There are many windows, but no matter how much you look you don't see anyone passing behind them. If you didn't know better you'd think it was completely empty.

But it isn't empty. The Sergeant is there.

You won't get too far into the Lodge before you encounter the Sergeant. There he is in the lobby, standing in front of a door that leads deeper into the building. No matter at what time you come or what you do, he'll always be there, reading self-help books, or with a mirror, practicing his next speech/confrontation. When he's not facing all of you at once, he seems to be easier to talk with.

Is it important that we do it instead of you?

[Not really here to play the blame game, thanks.]

What quality makes it important for us to do it instead of you?

The fact it's not me doing it, for starters. If I was the one to perform these tasks, it'd defeat the point of bringing you all in the first place.

[And also he'd get the brunt of the town's dislike, and that sure would be inconvenient too]

Are you also from this world, Sergeant?

No, I'm certain this is a different world from the one I came from.

[As opposed to, you know, a place in some other part of the planet, like most people would think]

[Kino's the one who asked, but that's still surprising to hear confirmed.]

Was your world similar to this one?

Not at all. It was very different, as far as I know. Not that I had seen that much of it, anyway. We used to be in a very small island near Iceland.

[What's an Iceland.]

[On the totem pole, the Sergeant is rather low. No surprise there because, well, of his rank]

Are they working with you on... [What do you even call this] all of this?

I'm following my superior's orders right now. This is all part of our efforts.

So was going to another world part of that, too?

I admit that part caught me by surprise, but it's natural I wouldn't know until it was already done. I'm just a subordinate, after all.

Were the bailiffs part of that group as well?

...ah. Them. [The Sergeant waves the hamburguer around, pensive] They're nobody important. I just...needed a couple puppets because I needed to stay in the trial room while Nine was taken away.

[Hm. That explains nothing, though...he clarifies:]

They're merely robots. That's why their face is like mine -- because they're my robots. Only could have two because I doubt I can handle more, and there they are.

Why... is your face like that? Is that something normal in your world?

[It's in the most inoffensive tone Kino can manage.]

I guess so. I made them like me because I felt that was appropriate.

[Ah, right. His face]

To be frank? I don't know. I can only guess something went wrong when I arrived to this world. It'd be great if you don't remind me I don't have a face.

[He's rather self-conscious about his lack of facial creatures, yup]

I see. I'm sorry for bringing it up.

[Probably.]

What about the third bailiff?

...does he matter?

[At the mention of the third bailiff, the Sergeant gets tense]

Does he?

[You'd be the one who knows that, Sarge.]

He doesn't. You shouldn't pay attention to him.

[Do you believe this guy, Kino?]

[Nope. Kino tilts her head ever so slightly.]

A human? Or another robot?

[Curses!]

...okay, I have to stop answering questions in a way that leads me to being trapped like this.

[He's silent for a moment before begrudgingly admitting:]

Human.

[You did walk into this yourself, Sarge.]
