SERGEANT NPC CONTACT

The Lodge is located on the hills near the town, large and strange. It contrasts a lot when compared to the rest of the town -- its gray and white walls are quite the change from the vibrant and colorful Cartesio, the plants and bushes that are planted on the lower levels of the Lodge only make the contrast more obvious. There are many windows, but no matter how much you look you don't see anyone passing behind them. If you didn't know better you'd think it was completely empty.

But it isn't empty. The Sergeant is there.

You won't get too far into the Lodge before you encounter the Sergeant. There he is in the lobby, standing in front of a door that leads deeper into the building. No matter at what time you come or what you do, he'll always be there, reading self-help books, or with a mirror, practicing his next speech/confrontation. When he's not facing all of you at once, he seems to be easier to talk with.

Guess you can't tell me why you chose this town over any other one?

[cartesio]

I didn't choose it, but from what I know, any random town would have been good enough for this. Cartesio doesn't have anything special.

[odasaku]

So you want something from us? Is this what they call a social experiment?

[ he has maybe 3% of an idea as to what the fuck the term “social experiment” means. ]

[cartesio]

I guess that's the closest term this can have. [The Sergeant leans forward] This isn't an experiment. This is a test run. The experimental phase was over already.

[odasaku]

Like when they test pharmaceuticals on people?

[ except worse? ]

[cartesio]

Experiments aren't limited to pharmaceutics, you know. [But yeah, that's the gist of it] Sakura, Millium and Wayne were part of the experimental run. Twenty-two people, got a couple things going to see how you all were likely to react, and set things with that data in mind. I even managed to get someone to kill during those four days.

And now here we are. You all are officially the first real run of this whole thing.

[odasaku]

That's why you gotta force us to do the killings?

[ well, it's not like oda doesn't know how easy it is for people to want to kill. that's why assassins have business. ]

What if no one had killed in the trial?

[cartesio]

...I don't know what I would have done. I got lucky.

[ said in the most deadpan tone ever. ]

What about the offer for the executions? Is that another part of the test? Or just a hobby?

[cartesio]

That's part of this whole thing. Not vital, though. I'm capable of doing it myself if necessary.
