There’s a small booklet in your room. Inside there are a few rules, typed with a typewriter.
‘For a pleasant stay, please keep in mind the following rules:
1. The group will remain in Cartesio for eight weeks. Leaving the town before eight weeks pass is impossible. If anyone tries to leave the town, the Sergeant has the right to stop them, using brute strength if necessary.
2.Always pay for what you take from the stores. You were provided with a debit card, make use of it without worrying about the money. The owners will trust you to behave, please don't betray their trust. You have complete liberty to take what you want and do anything you want as long as you don't destroy their property...too much.
3. Sleeping anywhere in the town is allowed, but keep in mind you’re in danger of being killed by a fellow participant, or arrested by the police.
4. You’re allowed to explore the town, but please be mindful of ‘private properties’. Don’t break and enter or damage anyone’s property unless you have the Sergeant’s permission.
5. Violence against a resident of Cartesio or against the Sergeant is forbidden, unless authorized by the Sergeant. Please comply with the police or with the owners of the stores you visit.
6. Additional rules may be added at any point the Sergeant considers necessary.
